When I turned fifty years old, something deep and undeniable stirred inside of me… and I knew.
The time had finally come. It was time to tell my story.
I was able to overcome the profound anxiety of opening up about my life because I believe it is our stories (possibly more than anything else we have to give) that can make the biggest difference in the lives of others.
When we hear how someone else “just like us” overcome adversities and hardships, our own spines rebar and we find the tenacity to try again. We realize that maybe hope is a strategy, that tomorrow will be a better day, and that we are braver, stronger, and smarter than we think we are.
Sometimes the best (and only) way to give someone hope is not to give advice, but to simply share our story. We learn from one another and boost each other’s faith in this way.
If someone else can do it, then I can too.
So, for those of you who have always felt like an outcast, who have never felt like you belonged, or who have felt unworthy of life, may you not only come to understand and resolve some of the events that have shaped you, but may your purpose, your calling, and the fire and passion of your heart be ignited again through this book.
No matter how heart-wrenching your past may have been, I want you to know you are stronger than you think you are and more amazing than you could ever dream. You were designed for great and mighty exploits… you were made To Run With Horses.
In joyful, loving service,
